The article gets into-- bullying behind the scenes, and having certain contestants not get very much sleep (obvious killer for the voice), because, they are not one of the selected etc.
It really is a sad, sad state of affairs right now.

Jonathan indeed has ... By: jewelmarkess. on 30 May 12, 02:24:11 Jonathan indeed has a very good voice. But he needs training or? he'll hurt it. He is young so it is really important that he learns to sing with the correct technique; otherwise, he may just lose his voice which will be very very sad. But yes, he has a lot of potential. As to "World cup" - have you thought that they used Pavarotti's name that most people knew to promote their event and not the other way around?
There were many ... By: jewelmarkess. on 30 May 12, 02:21:41 There were many moments of audience manipulation during the season Braswell was on. They always praised Boyd even when he was off tune and running out of breath all over and they criticized Braswell for no reason; every commercial showed Boyd. Also, because of misrepresentation a lot of people perceived Donald Braswell as "professional", and Boyd as an "amateur" since his voice degree was never mentioned. Not to mention that? in these shows good looks put one at a disadvantage.
I'd imagine you've ... By: jewelmarkess. on 30 May 12, 02:18:41 I'd imagine you've heard? Donald Braswell sing Broadway songs and such which was all he was allowed to sing on AGT. A lot of people in the audience haven't heard Nessun Dorma before so they react to the great music of Puccini.

About Donald ... By: babystinky. on 29 May 12, 16:57:49 About Donald Braswell, you do realize that he was in accident way back in 1995? It was so? bad, that the doctors gave him "zero" chance of singing. Talking would be difficult. He credits the teachings of maestro Bertacci for giving his voice back. His voice came back from the dead. It isn't what it once was. How can one not be impressed with a voice like that? You don't even know what he sounded like or would have without damage.
To be at the level ... By: babystinky. on 29 May 12, 16:53:42 To be at the level of real Opera singer, yes it does take years and years of practice. When I talk of a masterclass, it isn't the "quantity" but rather the "quality" and certain things can change your destiny. Pavarotti, talks about when he was 12 years old, when he met the great Beniamino Gigli, and asked him? about the length of time it takes to study. Gigli, winked, and told him that he is studying even now. Pavarotti got the message, he even says this was important.
A masterclass is 1 ... By: mountainspring8. on 29 May 12, 16:07:42 A masterclass is 1 hour duration, didn't you say you have to study hard many years. As for Donald Braswell I have heard of him, but his voice not for me, just because he is a "real" opera singer does not mean he sounds better, the American Public must judge him by going to his concerts, buying his album. Don't think Neil Boyd has done? much since AGT. not known much in UK but not that bothered. Like young Jackie. Debate gone on long enough, lets call it a day, I like to spend time with my kids.
-Why, was the Paul ... By: babystinky. on 29 May 12, 13:32:04 -Why, was the Paul Potts story, without the fact he took a masterclass under Pavarotti? Look up, Donald Braswell, he was a real Opera singer,? who had a wonderful talent, the fact he was forbidden to sing arias during the show, should give you some cause of concern. Also, there when you look up Donald, there was no hiding on his part, of the people he studied with, and the fact he briefly studied with Franco Corelli.
I now rest? my case ... By: mountainspring8. on 29 May 12, 06:55:57 I now rest? my case., we have got off the subject. It most certainly wasn't a sob story but a big talent with Paul. Jonathan had a story about being bullied for his size, but that did not take away from the fact his voice was remarkable. You should see it as a compliment to Pavarotti if a young man so praised is being compared to him.
Jewelmarkess I first heard of Pavarotti because of world cup in every UK home., his single N.D. went to No.1 because of that advertizing.
All the best to both u.
Thanks for ... By: babystinky. on 29 May 12, 03:42:42 Thanks for reminding me of that-- That is a good example of something wrong with these shows. Donald Braswell, is very good, and I believe, he even studied in the 90's with Corelli, and why he? wasn't allowed to sing arias is in my view shameful. I recall, the story of him and the accident and how he got his voice back.

(cont) During that ... By: jewelmarkess. on 29 May 12, 03:34:07 (cont) During that year when Neal Boyd - a guy with a voice degree who had constant pitch issues, run out of breath, bad diction, etc. - won AGT, there was another contestant, Donald? Braswell who was quite good. Braswell used to be a young promising opera singer when an accident damaged soft tissue in his throat, so after many years he tried to rebuild some kind of a singing career as it was too late for opera. But he wasn't even allowed to sing arias on the show by the producers.
Exactly. People ... By: jewelmarkess. on 29 May 12, 03:27:55 Exactly. People don't realize how staged these shows are. For example, a couple of times on AGT they had voice performance graduates who failed to make it in opera. These people weren't that good, but they most certainly had training. But this was never mentioned on the show, it was "a housewife" (never mind that she had an MA in opera performance), or an insurance salesman not a guy? with BA in classical voice who simply wasn't good enough for opera.
Actually, ... By: jewelmarkess. on 29 May 12, 03:21:13 Actually, Pavarotti? didn't have that much marketing - he didn't need it. By the time he started performing in these crossover concerts in the arenas, he'd already been famous from his opera performances. But I don't recall any particular marketing for his crossover concerts. People tuned in because they knew who he was or because they had heard him before or heard on tv. Back then a lot more people knew the names of famous opera singers than today.
There are fewer ... By: jewelmarkess. on 29 May 12, 03:17:45 There are fewer views for other arias too. People simply search for Nessun? Dorma and watch videos that come up first. If it happened to be a performance in an opera, they'd watch that. Now, I don't personally consider Turandot to be a good "first time" choice, but then it's personal. But for example, a video where Pavarotti sings La donna e' mobile in a movie based on Rigoletto, and I saw comments where people who've never heard an opera went and bought the DVD and said "It's an awesome film".
Which operas did ... By: jewelmarkess. on 29 May 12, 03:11:48 Which operas did you see on tv? How many? Operas are all different, so many times people listen to one opera don't like it and decide they don't like opera. It's a bit like if someone goes to movies, watches one movie and says "it's boring, I hate movies". Even opera fans don't like every single opera. Now, it's possible to not like opera of course, but one needs to at least sample a few preferably live to make an informed decision. Also, as babystinky says, live sound is different? from tv.
when i hear the ... By: simsimma2708. on 29 May 12, 01:35:04 when i hear the chorus, I get goose bumps because I know what is coming...?
You are probably ... By: babystinky. on 28 May 12, 23:20:13 You are probably correct about the views, if this was a full opera. With the Opera singer, the microphone is an enemy. It distorts the voice. The voice is meant to be heard resonating in ways, that pop singers don't. That is why you hear a fuller tone.
If? you get a chance see this video ( go to about 2 minutes in)
watch?v=0uX56Jhwhfg
That is not yelling, but a voice that has overtones that fill an entire theater over an orchestra. That takes a "master" with years of training-

Not to mention that in these shows good looks put one at a disadvantage.

About Donald ... By: babystinky. on 29 May 12, 16:57:49 About Donald Braswell, you do realize that he was in accident way back in 1995? It was so bad, that the doctors gave him "zero" chance of singing. Talking would be? difficult. He credits the teachings of maestro Bertacci for giving his voice back. His voice came back from the dead. It isn't what it once was. How can one not be impressed with a voice like that? You don't even know what he sounded like or would have without damage.
To be? at the ... By: babystinky. on 29 May 12, 16:53:42 To be? at the level of real Opera singer, yes it does take years and years of practice. When I talk of a masterclass, it isn't the "quantity" but rather the "quality" and certain things can change your destiny. Pavarotti, talks about when he was 12 years old, when he met the great Beniamino Gigli, and asked him about the length of time it takes to study. Gigli, winked, and told him that he is studying even now. Pavarotti got the message, he even says this was important.

As for Donald Braswell I? have heard of him, but his voice not for me, just because he is a "real" opera singer does not mean he sounds better, the American Public must judge him by going to his concerts, buying his album. Don't think Neil Boyd has done much since AGT. not known much in UK but not that bothered.
Look up, Donald Braswell, he was a real Opera singer, who had a wonderful talent, the fact he was forbidden to sing arias during the show, should give you some cause of concern. Also, there when you look up Donald, there was no hiding on? his part, of the people he studied with, and the fact he briefly studied with Franco Corelli.
I now rest my case. ... By: mountainspring8. on 29 May 12, 06:55:57 I now rest my case., we have got off the? subject.

Donald Braswell, is? very good, and I believe, he even studied in the 90's with Corelli, and why he wasn't allowed to sing arias is in my view shameful. I recall, the story of him and the accident and how he got his voice back.

By: jewelmarkess. on 29 May 12, 03:34:07 (cont) During that year when Neal Boyd - a guy? with a voice degree who had constant pitch issues, run out of breath, bad diction, etc. - won AGT, there was another contestant, Donald Braswell who was quite good.
People don't realize how staged these shows are.? For example, a couple of times on AGT they had voice performance graduates who failed to make it in opera. These people weren't that good, but they most certainly had training. But this was never mentioned on the show, it was "a housewife" (never mind that she had an MA in opera performance), or an insurance salesman not a guy with BA in classical voice who simply wasn't good enough for opera.
Actually, Pavarotti ... By: jewelmarkess. on 29 May 12, 03:21:13 Actually, Pavarotti didn't have that much marketing - he didn't need it. By the time he started performing in these crossover concerts? in the arenas, he'd already been famous from his opera performances.
People simply search for Nessun Dorma and watch videos that come up first. If it happened to be a performance in an opera, they'd watch that. Now, I don't personally consider Turandot to be a good "first time" choice, but then it's personal. But for example, a video where Pavarotti sings La donna e' mobile in a movie based on Rigoletto, and I saw comments? where people who've never heard an opera went and bought the DVD and said "It's an awesome film".

Operas are all different, so many times people listen to one opera don't like it and decide they don't like opera. It's a bit like if someone goes to movies, watches one movie and says "it's boring, I hate movies".? Even opera fans don't like every single opera. Now, it's possible to not like opera of course, but one needs to at least sample a few preferably live to make an informed decision. Also, as babystinky says, live sound is different from tv.

You are probably ... By: babystinky. on 28 May 12, 23:20:13 You are probably correct about the views, if this was a full opera. With the Opera singer, the microphone is an enemy. It distorts the voice. The voice is meant to be heard resonating in ways, that pop singers don't.? That is why you hear a fuller tone.
If you get a chance see this video ( go to about 2 minutes in)

That is not yelling, but a voice that has overtones that fill an entire theater over an orchestra. That takes a "master" with years of training-

Absolutely true. He has to take care, he is very young. He has a dark sound, deep, and could possibly be a dramatic tenor, but who knows, if he wants that path? If he does, and needs a "model"- I think of? the great dramatic Italian Tenor Giuseppe Giacomini, just plugging away, and taking his art very seriously: watch?v=1M1NDY5s0cg

There is a very, interesting and illuminating? article last year, from the Daily Mail Titled: --"X Factor is not about talent... it should be called Freak Factor: Sheila O'Sullivan exposes manipulation at heart of the show"-- The article gets into-- bullying behind the scenes, and having certain contestants not get very much sleep (obvious killer for the voice), because, they are not one of the selected etc. It really is a sad, sad state of affairs right now.
