whilst the heat accounts for a bit of the slowness it doesn't account for all of it.
it's mainly slow because it was played 40 years ago and the idea of pressing in football was pretty much unheard of. therefore teams didn't really need to play at a quick tempo as they were never really forced to by the opposing team. also factor in the lower fitness levels of that era.
