This happened because Christians made a huge fuss about how America was built on religion and they felt "insulted" there isn't mandatory prayers. You can still pray in school, it just isn't mandatory for those who do not follow the Christian faith. Also, America was never founded as a religious country. Even the Pledge of Allegiance did not have "Under God" until the 1954. Then is when Christianity started pushing religion in schools. Religion is fine, just practice it in the place? of worship.
