So sad that this ... By: TheBlueBattlestar. on 18 Sep 11, 04:21:28 So sad that this guy has a horn like that... Not trying to be harsh or anything, but I play on a 20 year? old yamaha, best euphonium my school can get, and well, it's just a tad disappointing hearing the product of his practicing. :/

OK
First off, take ... By: 1basstuba. on 20 Sep 10, 16:11:58 OK
First off, take in more air to complete the phrasing so it doesn't sounded squeezed at the end of each phrase.
Second,? listen to the piece being played by Yo-Yo Ma, so you can hear the way it is meant to flow.
Third, PRACTICE your slurring, interval jumps, and tonguing (try more of a la-la, legato style instead of the harder attack of ta-ta tonguing)
#2 should be not as choppy in the phrasing and should rise and fall in tempo.
Hope this helps
I think you should ... By: zoot69. on 20 Mar 10, 08:29:13 I think you should stop trying to give advice as if you know what music and being a musician is all about, it's a bit empty when you look at the player you are. Basically it's youtube, I have no obligation to be constructive.? I usually am to young players but as I said, you seem to think you you know what you're doing more than anyone can tell you. I don't really get what you're trying to say with your 3rd sentence.
well I forget what ... By: bandgeek89. on 20 Mar 10, 04:31:31 well I forget what I commented on but I'm sorry it sounded ignorant. What makes you think I don't know? what good and bad musicianship is? Listing what's wrong with someone's playing doesn't help them improve right? Would you like it if someone did that to you? That's all what being a musician is about, improving.
actually I wanted ... By: zoot69. on 20 Mar 10, 03:57:01 actually I wanted to see what kind of musician/player made the comment on my video and I? got my answer. From memory your comment wasn't bad it was just ignorant. I don't think you know what good or bad musicianship is and I wouldn't waste my time trying to give you advice since you obviously think you're advanced enough to comment on my arrangement.
next time tell the ... By: bandgeek89. on 20 Mar 10, 01:05:00 next time tell the player what they need to WORK on, not how much they suck. We don't get better by hearing people? say what we are bad at, but what we can do better the next time.

Actually I was ... By: zoot69. on 19 Mar 10, 08:35:51 Actually I was pretty frank because as I recall he made some stupid comment on one of my videos so I checked out this video to find a player that wasn't very good. So I told him? so.

And in real life for? that matter. I'm actually a bit surprised that you didn't know it wasn't that good. Oh well.
Well that's your ... By: bandgeek89. on 27 Oct 09, 15:55:25 Well that's your opinion. And FYI I had a very goos audition. And sorry for being rude, but no one cares how well you can play something. And also, if I had known that this was poor, I would not put it up. Why would anyone put a poor recording of themselves? I? put this up to hear people's feedback.
I'm just saying ... By: zoot69. on 27 Oct 09, 06:03:04 I'm just saying that it's not very good. Any pro or decent college/uni student could sight read it pretty well. I personally would never put such a poor performance on youtube. Though yes, I reckon I could sight read this on my trombone just as? well if not better than you played it here, and certainly with a few weeks practice on a euph I'd have it perfect.
I don't know how? ... By: bandgeek89. on 27 Oct 09, 05:50:52 I don't know how? anyone could think that. Unless you're someone who's taken years of lessons, this might be easy to sightread. However I am not one of those people so those big drop were challenging.
yeah I realise that ... By: zoot69. on 27 Oct 09, 05:13:28 yeah I realise that, but the way you're playing it sounds like you're reading through it for the first time.?

Usually the note? "g" is what sounds with the reed vibrating in the open air. An old joke was to ask a bassoonist to play a G major scale, but instead of playing the last note, take the reed out of your mouth and finger low Bb. The "sucker" would then finish the scale. . .
